PAST ANIMATIONS

The bouncing ball is where it all started! Here are the animation exercises I've done that have built up my skills as animator.

BOUNCING BALLS (2022)

The bouncing ball applies to almost all things in animation. It follows you everywhere! Therefore, learning to master a bouncing ball is a must. With this assignment, I had to animate a heavy ball, light ball and a ball with a weight in between. A challenge I had to face was the timing of each bounce. Understanding the ease in of each bounce and the deterioration of the ball was something I struggled with as well. In the future, I want to work on composition and camera movement since I only focused on the ball animation.

THE PENDULUM (2022)

The pendulum is a foundational aspect when it comes to animation. For this assignment, I used the workflow, Layered Animation, by animating each "joint" of the pendulum and working my way down to the end. I had most problems with timing and achieving the "S-curve" of the pendulum. Mostly, it was up to my discretion on whether I wanted to make the animation more realistic or cartoony and because I didn't know in advance, I struggled when I was in the middle of animating. Going forward, I want to have a better idea on what direction I want to go with my animation.

OVERLAPPING ACTION (2022)

This project presented overlapping action and follow-through action. I had to work with a rig that had a "tail" that follows the main action of the character. The main issue I had to overcome was the timing due to the aspect of the "drag" in the tail and feather. With this project, I wanted implement more of a story along with learning the principles.

VANILLA WALKCYCLE (2022)

This assignment was to teach the basic body mechanics of a rig, as well as reinforce the workflow of pose-to-pose. I also developed more understanding on overlapping action. The biggest struggles I faced during the project was ensuring that my character had zero personality and the "knee pops". Overall, I am pleased with this assignment!

THE JUMP (2022)

This project was to introduce the animation workflow Pose-to-Pose. The main aspects of this assignment I had to focus on were maintaining the arc of the jump, the distribution of weight and the drag of the right leg. I wanted to attempt to rotate the main body through the jump while landing on one leg.

CHARACTER WALKCYCLE (2022)

Using the same rig, I was assigned to create "personality" walk cycles. Using my knowledge on how to make a vanilla walk cycle, I learned how to incorporate performance and personality  into the character. First shown is inspired by a scene from Disney's 101 Dalmatians. The second shown was done by personal reference.
